Taste Test: Estella Dawn suppresses the urge to be downright ‘Petty’
The pop newcomer struggles with a friendship’s tragic end.

“It’s taken every part of me not to be petty,” moans Estella Dawn. On her aptly-titled “Petty,” the pop newcomer witnesses a friendship light on fire and crumble into ash. The all-consuming flames swallow memories whole, and Dawn is only able to watch and observe. While she harbors deep sorrow, and perhaps a little resentment, she buries the urge to divulge deep secrets in retaliation. Instead, she expresses her pain as a way to let it slide off her shoulders and cleanse her soul. “There’s a darker shade to your intent / And my empathy just took a blow,” she confides, pulling the listener closer.
