Folk duo document their fight to love one another.

If you’re not too careful, love songs can be too sickly sweet and jarring to the system. That’s not the case, fortunately, with indie-folk duo Firefly Search Party‘s new cut called “Stubborn is the Love.” Despite all odds, and countless detractors saying otherwise, musicians and songwriter Dian and Nathan fought tooth and nail, much like Romeo & Juliet (but far less tragic), to make their love work. “Honey, you’re the one I want / And I won’t let go,” Dian bellows. Nathan’s voice ebbs and flows around hers, amidst a foamy wave of fiddle and other light instruments. It’s both reflective and anthemic, perfectly balancing their own struggle and eventual freedom. It’s the kind of entry that’s ripe for breezy and cool late-summer listening.
