One of pop’s most bewitching, XYLØ cooks up a cool dark pop track called “Tongue in the Bag.” Paige Duddy slides across a grimy club floor with a sheepish flow, and the disco ball swings overhead, its reflective, cosmic glow falling across her. “Blackberry ooze / Will you tell me your life story / Till it closes in?,” her voice pulsates in time with the grind. It’s beautiful, haunting, and gripping.
