Freshly Squeezed, Vol. 152: Peter Wise, Rue Snider, Sasha Sloan & more
Welcome to Freshly Squeezed, a weekly new music playlist: spanning country, pop, EDM and urban, mainstream and other.
Heartbreak is like rose petals. The kind you press into your favorite book or hang up with twine, dangling to dry until it’s full of crunch and nothing else. Consummate guitar-slinger Peter Wise wanders back into that feeling of inescapable suffocation and regreat, offering up a understated performance. With “Methadone Joan,” he plays on that deep ache, so consuming you can’t focus on anything else. “Well, I walked and ran for miles / To find out where you now were staying,” he admits. His words burn and sizzle like a candle reaching its wick’s end. And soon, the pain just might vanish along with it.
You can always rely on Rue Snider to be an absolute dynamite. It’s basically the apocalypse these days, and a song like “David Bowie’s Clothes” feels apt to soothe some of this swollen discomfort. If only for a fraction of a second, maybe igniting something deep in your bones, it soaks you in this almost intagible hypnotic aroma, wafting from Snider’s restrained inflection. “Love isn’t selfish / Love isn’t jealous / Love isn’t trying to shape a partner,” he carves out his heart. Its message of healing could not have arrived at a better time. Sit back and soak in its magic.
The playlist also includes Sasha Sloan, Sam DeRosa, Chasing Abbey, MAX, Tyler Childers, Brandon Colbein, Julian Lamadrid, David Quinn, Big Little Lions, Brennen Leigh, Sean McVerry, The Sweeplings, and many more.
In all, we’ve got 30 new tracks to soothe your mind during these terrible pandemic times. Insert heart emoji.
Each playlist will be refreshed every Friday or Saturday. We reserve the right to update anytime during the week, so make sure you bookmark this page.
