Freshly Squeezed, Vol. 46: Matt Hall, Cherryade, The Lied To’s & more

We all have that one person who we shouldn’t want but we do in the worst way. Matt Hall grapples with needing his space and being drawn back into a deceitful, toxic web. He knows its wrong, but doesn’t it feel so good? His newest mint single is “Self Help,” spring-boarding this week’s playlist with romping playfulness. Alt-pop duo Cherryade clip at his heels, though, with their glitchy, frenetic banger “Empress,” which dares to empower and inject you with vein-popping adrenaline. Then, accomplished Americana singer-songwriter Lori McKenna reflects on aging with “People Get Old,” walking through her memories with rosy, bittersweet shades. It’s both beautiful and tragic; the human existence really is just a temporary stop to something more fulfilling.

We’ve also got a gut-punching favorite from Brandy Zdan‘s new record, plus new songs by Glowing Glare, lovelytheband, Bonnie McKee, A Great Big World, Bastille, Charlie Puth, Radnor & Lee, Lost Kings, Dawes, Revertist and Smaller Hearts, among others

ANNALIA debuts with her first EP, a shimmering pop classic, and “Traces” is among her best work in her burgeoning career. The Lied To’s have dropped their new roots-based record; “Wishing” shivers in all the right ways. And later, a sterling cut from Brent Cobb‘s second smooth-as-whiskey album, Providence Canyon, is sweet as honey, going down in thick, satisfying layers. The playlist also includes VISTA, Juliana Hale, Ben Khan, Candelas, July Jones, Tallia Storm, SHOR, Will Easton, WHY, Betty Who, The Pop Ups and Courtney Barnett.
