Freshly Squeezed, Vol. 66: Astrid S, Sister Sparrow, The Darcys & more

Welcome to Freshly Squeezed, a weekly new music playlist: spanning country, pop, EDM and urban, mainstream and other.

If you only listen to one new album this week, you better make it Sister Sparrow‘s Gold. It’s a glorious and shiny set of throwback soul, glossed over with a big band sound and one powerful voice. Arleigh Kincheloe leans into her penchant for monster pop hooks with abandon, too. “Frankie,” a standout cut getting our new playlist party started, is grounded with rumbling percussion and flicks of tambourine, and she plays around with expectations, breezing over the production and letting you into her snow globe world. It’s infectious, and when her voice cracks and rolls at her breaking point, conviction rains down upon you in buckets.

Norwegian pop mover Astrid S makes her long-awaited return with raw, unfettered, explosive “Emotion.” It’s got a thick, sticky beat and a melody for days on days on days. It’s as sweet as it is downright bitter to the taste, and we’re all here for it. Then, underrated starlet Rozzi hooks up with Pentatonix‘s Scott Hoying for “Lose Us,” one new single of two, and it’s quite the treat it is. Their voices entangle so effortlessly, you’ll get lost in their soft caresses. Lastly, groovy alt-rock duo The Darcys are just “Chasing the Fall” with their latest entry, a tall and crisp and cool drink of water.

The latest edition also features such essential gems as: Greg Hawks, Jess Glynne, Colter Wall, Adam Hood, Francois Klark, Kat Deluna, Little Mix, Pistol Annies, Great Good Fine OK, Youngr, The Watson Twins and many more.
