You could say relationships are made of porcelain. As easy as it is to let them tumble and shatter on the hardwood, it’s nearly as easy to take great care to cherish and protect them at all costs. Feeling the fires snarl and swell around her, Australian country-soul singer-songwriter Gabriella Cilmi (most known for her hit single “Sweet About Me,” circa 2008) shifts through resulting ash of the burning out of a dear connection. Her triumphant comeback, “Ruins” rumbles with the realization that the end is imminent and coming up fast on her heels, so all she can do is watch the smoke puff up and over her head. But she holds her own amidst the firestorm, a vocal that has only matured as a glass of merlot. “Won’t  you stop watch you’re doing / And build me a shrine / Will you leave me in ruins like you did last time,” she provokes. Her raspy vocal cords rattle across the drum kit before catapulting into the light, shedding all the sorrow as a snake does in the desert.

“Ruins” anchors her new EP, expected later this year.
