Taste Test: Ganser witness their best intentions crumble to dust on ‘You Must Be New Here’
The gritty indie-rock band chronicle life’s deterioration with a new song.
Welcome to Taste Test, a song/video review series of SubmitHub-only gemstones
Our best of intentions sweep up from our feet into imposing, yet ill-fated, skyscrapers. We can dream and think what we’re doing is right ⏤ but the root is: we’ve imagined it all. Gritty, gutting and glorious indie-rock band Ganser unabashedly confuse reality with blurry, ghost-like images that seep right out of their head onto the floor. With “You Must Be New Here,” lead singer Alicia Gaines witnesses the entire structure of her life, cross beams, flooring and all, crumble beneath her. From 20 stories up, her and her crew cascade across the atmosphere like stars colliding to earth. “I will deny everything,” sings Gaines, whose resignation is both aloof and pointed. It’s only in total ruin that she truly accepts the truth, a realization that may cost her a few more battle scars.
“You Must Be New Hear” is the title cut to a new EP.
