Change hits you when you least expect it. Relationships, from friendships to the romantic, are the first to undergo rapid transformations as debris in yanked downstream in a gurgling river. Saddling between indie-folk and a fragile R&B crackle, singer-songwriter Hayden Everett makes a bold return with “Fast Love,” overflowing with screeching electric guitar and a backing choir. It’s his first entry since 2019’s self-titled debut EP, and already, he exercises great strides in broadening his stylistic tendencies. “So, we’re moving on / And it’s settled now,” he concedes the swift changes are inevitable.
