Over half a million people experienced homelessness on any given night last year. It’s an epidemic that has little hope of ever ending, it seems. Americana singer-songwriter Hayes Peebles grapples with the moral implications of owning our responsibilities as human beings and feeling powerless to stop it. With “Riddle Me,” originally written three years ago, Peebles unlocks our tendencies to look the other way while simultaneously extending a helping hand. “What is it that sets you free?” he sings, one of many existential questions rattling in his skull. Peebles keeps pacing the floor, but the answers remain elusive. And so, he goes about his day, as we all day in the end.
“Riddle Me” samples a forthcoming, yet-untitled, new batch of music.
