Welcome to Taste Test, a song/video review series of SubmitHub-only gemstone

A near-death experience can jolt you alive. You think you know what life has been and is about, but one severe left-hook can change it all. Put through the wringer himself, folk powerhouse HeartMouth shakes off his fourth right-lung collapse of his life with a bone-bending acoustic rendering of his song “Sincere.” Guitar quivers beneath him in hushed, yet somehow crisp, tones, and his voice, which has taken on a new, more gravel-soaked texture, sends a shockwave throughout the whole countryside. “You, what have you done to me / I’ve waited patiently / And you set me on fire,” the words pour out of him with gutting rasp. The misery he once felt pricks and stings the air around him, and in his wake, his footsteps scorch and char the earth black and icky. His story is a monumental one, and we should heed his every syllable.
