Taste Test: Indigo Boulevard bridges the gap between childhood and adulthood in ‘Downhill’
A beautiful song from a bright-eyed indie-rock band
Welcome to Taste Test, a song/video review series of SubmitHub-only gemstones
There’s a point in everyone’s lives where you are caught between the magic of childhood and the maturity of adulthood. Indigo Boulevard combines both in a heartfelt love letter to old childhood memories, as they look to the future. The band consists of Daisy Forbes on drums and bass, Colter Adams playing guitar, keys, percussion and backing vocals, and Natalie Ingalls as the lead vocalist. Despite this standard indie-rock set of instruments, Indigo Boulevard uses them expertly, crafting a unique and soothing sound. The star of the show is Ingalls, with a voice that instantly captures your attention and pulls you into a photo album of old memories. “Running through the Main Street/packed into a back seat/feeling like this could never end/sleeping under starlight/getting in the first fight/wondering if you’d ever see him again.” But this is not purely a nostalgic song, it also looks forwards. “Here you go/you’re on your own/don’t turn around you might loose your footing/you can’t go back so why bother looking”. With a sound like this, I certainly can’t wait to see what Indigo Boulevard make of their future!
