Taste Test: Isaac Dunbar beckons to the ‘woman on the hills’
The synth-pop newcomer romances a new love with his smokey new song.

Life brings a cascading spark of both light and shadow, as we wade into looming adventure or, perhaps, stay back a bit to survey the scene. Moody pop upstart Isaac Dunbar lets a new encounter grab him completely and unapologetically by the heart with a starry dreamscape called “woman on the hills.” His voice is silky and languid, as if he is inhabiting a Lana Del Rey mind trip, and the noir bend to the production gives him ample room to heave out his tangy sweet confessional. “She told me to take the whole world by the throat / Boy, you have something no one else has got / You’ve got that perfect smile / Yeah, it makes the boys and girls run for miles,” he sings, reminiscing about being love-struck anew. The possibilities linger on his every syllable, and soon, he fades as dusk on the earth’s edge and rides into the pitch-black night.
“woman on the hills” lifts off from his new EP, expected later this year.
