Premiere: J-LiNE rises out of mental anguish with ’80s banger ‘Give Me Tonight’

The NYC pop mover picks himself off the ground with a dazzling new club anthem.

Darkness can fashion both mental decay and great art. Just ask any singer, songwriter or musician ⏤ they’ll all have devastating tales of escaping into their songcraft as a way to cope, soothe their aching mind and shield from the world and its many tragedies. New York City’s premiere dance-pop craftsman and B-Sides & Badlands fave J-LiNE collects his thoughts to reengage all the senses and, more importantly, his mood with a electrifying dane-floor banger called “Give Me Tonight,” a finger-snapping, disco-sloshed track that seeks therapy between foamy synth waves.

“City lights are shining bright / Got me feeling nice,” he unspools with sensual energy flying from his fingertips. “So give me tonight / Only you can make it better / Living for this night all week.” Groovy chords trembling at the baseline, the synthetics lashing with leather-whipped cracks, the dazzling throwback sends a shock throughout the entire respiratory and skeletal systems. Even J-LiNE’s own bones shatter like glow-sticks at Coachella, and the blood courses through his veins, pulsating through his skin. “Why play by the rules / Baby we gon’ break em / Haters hate our cool / Baby I don’t blame em,” he sings before his body is carried away into a glitter-bomb explosion.

On the song, another notch in his proverbial belt, he writes over email, “During my darkest moments, I tend to write my most energetic songs. That’s how ‘Give me Tonight’ came about. I was sick of feeling depressed and uninspired, so I made an effort to write a song to lift me out of my mood. Music can be therapy to me and writing this song definitely lifted me out of the darkness. It’s fun, incorporates a lot of guitar and synths and mostly reminds me to not take life so seriously.”

“Give Me Tonight” is the delightful follow-up to last month’s empowerment morsel “Feeling the Yes.”
