We all just want to be seen. That’s it. In his search, Jeffrey James bares his heart and soul with the emotionally tense “The Real Me.” Acoustic to its core, the thorny ballad finds the singer-songwriter navigating the rising flood waters in an attempt to make sense of himself in the world. “You’re always trying to remind me that our dreams are worth the cost,” he sings. Once dejected, and maybe a little cynical, he finds a lover that makes him feel all the feelings he’s been longing for. “In my heart, in my soul, I have always known I’m safe when you’re close,” he sings, stretching his voice to the rafters and beyond. “The Real Me” is equally pulverizing as it is fragile and intimate, the mark of a great song.
