We all know the story of Cinderella all too well. A young girl named Ella emotionally and psychologically abused by her stepmother and her venomous step-sisters would later in life come to find her voice and stand as a warrior finally basking the dawn’s early light. Musician and singer Emily Colombier knows the feeling. One-third of folk trio JEMS ⏤ rounded out with Jessica Rotter and Sarah Margaret Huff ⏤ Colombier has unlocked her full potential and soars high above the clouds and the past’s tragedies like a majestic eagle. On “Like Myself,” the band intertwine their voices into a golden rain, one that replenishes from the inside out and casts a radiant rainbow across all the land. “Damn, it feels so good to feel like myself,” they howl in unison. They embrace every shade of pain together but allow it all to fall away from them as they gaze hopeful into an ever-brightening future. It’s clear: superstardom is on the horizon.

“Like Myself” anchors the trio’s self-titled debut LP, out next Friday (May 17).
