Live performance is an art within itself. Folk trio Joseph – of sisters Natalie, Allison, and Meegan Closner – tear into a magnificent patchwork of vocal precision, winding their voices together into a towering emblem of power. Their song “Shivers” sinks into a grave melancholy in such a framework, and the single electric guitar trembles and bows to their prowess. “Did I make it up / Everything I trusted? / ‘Cause now it’s burning from the edges / Here the fire comes / Making ash and dust out of / Everything that made sense,” their beings crack and flake on the pre-chorus. Their words cast out charred ripples that drowns out everything and everyone in their wake. It’s that kind of performance.

“Shivers” is lifted from their latest record, 2019’s Good Luck, Kid.
