Taste Test: Jule Vera spin ‘Around’ in circles
The pop-rock band get a little dizzy with anxiety on their new song.

Being plagued with anxiety is much like being trapped in a maze. You turn corner after corner, often thinking you may have cracked the giant jigsaw puzzle, but alas, you hit another dead-end that shoves you back to the start again. Winding around their own perplexing, makeshift labyrinth, pop-rock four-piece Jule Vera piece together their many tattered and bruised emotions on a new song. “Around” makes the most out of its name, as the band stumbles from harp-laden folk-pop to distorted hip-hop. “I’m sick, sober, dizzy again / I go around / Sleep it off on the couch / Wake up, start over again,” sings lead singer Ansley Newman. And she’s not talking about booze. An anxiety-ridden mind is very much to blame for her slow deterioration and burning out. While a medicating solution may not have yet arisen, she’s certainly closer to unlocking much-needed peace than she previously assumed.
“Around” is the third single from the band’s upcoming new album.
