The Faroese duo dabble in western electronica with their debut.

Western and electronica rarely intersect; one runs organic, the other very plastic. Together, they can intertwine into a truly lush, sticky blend. Such is the case with Kóboykex‘s debut single. With “Midnight Gale,” the Faroese duo tear your heart out with lonesome bar-top weeping before immersing you in a synth-y tide pool, and its ripples suck you and refuse to let go. “Does she love as you pay for / Does she love when it’s called for,” Sigmund and Heiðrik twist their voices together, a call somehow majestic and chilling at the same time. Classic country whistles swim and swirl in the mix, as well, and you never know quite exactly what you’re listening to. But that’s the charm.
