We love to be in love. But we’re not always ready to receive it. It’ll come crashing into us when we least expect it, or we’ll peer into the rearview mirror and see it’s silhouette sink below the horizon. Bluesy Americana man Kristopher James juggles both ever-elusive states with his song “Too Soon, Too Late,” which goes down smooth and rich. “Maybe one day, stop running, baby,” he sings. Sliding into a silky falsetto, he lassos his emotions as best he can, and it eventually all erupts into a vocal fireworks display, gloriously shimmering but deeply wounded. Even so, there’s a certain intoxicating majesty in his style and performance that marks the blooming songcraft of one of today’s most ambitious.
“Too Soon, Too Late” is lifted from James’ brand new album, Kindness Never Quits, out everywhere now.
