Taste Test: Lara Snow can surely ‘Swim Far’
The alt-pop newcomer uses her fear for a bombastic new video.
Welcome to Taste Test, a song/video review series of SubmitHub-only gemstones
When fear poisons your bones, it can feel like the room in which you writhe is filling with water. You claw at the boards lining your makeshift cage, and your skin rips on the splintered edges. In confronting her own version of emotional and mental escape room, alt-pop darling Lara Snow calls upon her survival instincts to swim through the very clearly open window. “Swim Far” purls with watery synth work, and in the music video, the Berlin performer squeezes her anxiety like a sponge and lets her lioness to prowl through her maddeningly off-beat dance moves. “Holding on, you swim far,” she sings, allowing the echos to bounce around in her history, from the past’s hallways to right here in the moment. By the final few frames, she’s somehow emerged triumphant and even more capable for the next stage of her life.
“Swim Far” leads into her debut EP, Delete Forever, expected later this year.
