Taste Test: Laur Elle becomes a true queen with ‘Just So You Know’
Alberta synth-pop upstart dons a shimmering crown with her new empowering manifesto.
Welcome to Taste Test, a song/video review series of SubmitHub-only gemstones
We are in the age of enlightenment and bravery, especially for women who are finally taking back the reigns of their lives. Alberta’s synth-pop warrior Laur Elle (real name Laurel Clouston) wears her newly-shiny armor proudly, but it hasn’t been easy. As evidenced with the starstruck “Just So You Know,” as daring as it is emotionally-tethered, she has climbed her way out of a blackhole the likes we may never really know and rings a liberty bell of power and absolution. “You tried to build the illusion / That I’m tired ’cause you like when I’m losing,” she floods the gates right from the outset with a cold, hard chomp. Clouston’s voice is no long weary, but it possesses a towering and impossible-to-scale or topple swagger now chiseled into her bones. “When you come back looking for solace, I’ll be wearing my crown in the ring,” she vows to never give in ever again. Her strength is a marvel, and we could all learn a thing or two.
“Just So You Know” is Clouston’s first single of the year, and we’re mesmerized full-stop.
