Taste Test: Liz Longley learns to soar with her new song, ‘Finally High’
The indie-rocker accepts her past and forgives herself, finally.
Welcome to Taste Test, a song/video review series of SubmitHub-only gemstones
It’s never easy confronting your trauma. It’s like reliving it all over again. But we do, as humans, tearing down the old and rebuilding the new. We have to if we have any hope of growing and becoming the person we’re meant to be. Indie-rock singer-songwriter Liz Longley floats out of herself to observe her journey, one riddled with misery and eventual freedom and solace in knowing she did all she could do to break free. With “Finally High,” she laces up her vulnerable, hyper-exposed lyrics with pummeling percussion work and electrifying guitars, a deceptive musical trick to get you lost in the puffing haze. “I’m out of my mind / And I love it,” she confides between the fuzzy layers. Longley commands the narrative, simply commenting upon her previously fragile state and finally forgiving herself.
“Finally High” is the latest appetizer to her forthcoming new LP, Funeral for My Past, out everywhere September 18.
