You’re not supposed to have any feelings ⏤ the heart wants what the heart wants, as the saying goes ⏤ and you’re caught in this dark and dangerous web of a love that’ll never, ever happen. So, you trick yourself into hating the other person. Alt-pop singer-songwriter LØLØ does as much with her new single. “Hate U” electrifies the eardrums, and in her desires to supress the emotions shaking her form, she spits acid. “If I can’t love you, I’ll hate you instead,” she sings. She repeats her vow over and over again, further tangling her heartstrings into a knotted ball of yarn. It’s better this way.
