Taste Test: Mary Moore stakes her claim on ‘Map My Body’
Nashville newcomer steals away from an embrace with her new torch song.
Welcome to Taste Test, a song/video review series of SubmitHub-only gemstones
A new lover promises tangled sheets, flushed cheekbones and the rush of a lifetime. It’s only human nature to seek out pleasure as a way to either alleviate sorrow or reclaim power. Firmly planted in the latter, Nashville folk-pop charmer Mary Moore takes the lead in a new romantic rendezvous as she instructs a new suitor to follow along behind her wake. “Map My Body” instills a sense of freedom in the embrace, as hearts more than anything race toward one another and become forever one. “Conquer me,” she sings on loop, a siren-like trance to which one can’t say no. The drums decorate Moore with a heavenly aura, and even her footsteps seems to shake the earth’s core and rip it in two. The halves then embody the adrenaline of adventure and romance, leaving Moore to fly as angels do high above us lowly mortals.
“Map My Body” serves as the first taste to Moore’s new EP, Rooted Heart, out July 26.
