Welcome to Taste Test, a song/video review series of SubmitHub-only gemstones

One of the most instinctual desires of the human heart is love. Trapped within a world that grows more poisonous by the day, we search through various relationships for reciprocation – an unconditional action that makes us feel something, anything. Indie-pop upstart Michael Rice bleeds profusely and feels every stab to his heart with visceral intensity. On new song “Somebody,” a scorching torch ballad, he cries out into the midnight darkness for a touch, a kiss, an embrace that means he’s truly loved and valued. “I just want somebody to love me / Want somebody to need me,” he howls on the hook. His voice could shred mountaintops and topple entire kingdoms if he wanted, but he simply lets the raw emotion to do the trick. And it works.
