Taste Test: Mystery Friends envision both ‘Past and Future Self’

The electronic outfit reflects on the past as they push to the future with their new space jam.

Welcome to Taste Test, a song/video review series of SubmitHub-only gemstones

At any given point in our lives, we are both the past and future. Who we could be is forever fated by who we were. There’s no getting to the future without having a past. Electronic four-piece Mystery Friends lose themselves in a twinkling dreamscape with their new song. “Past and Future Self” excavates a former midnight rendezvous, which quickly led to something far more emotionally connected, but the fibers soon frayed and faded from time and place. “I don’t wanna go to sleep” slips from their grip, floating away into hyper-charged outer-space and a universe we’ve not yet discovered. As their trajectory sweeps out from their cosmic rocket ship, their current selves mutate into something much bigger and more equipped for the space expedition ahead. It’ll surely get you thinking about living present, but also ready for Friday night at the club. We can’t complain, yeah?

“Past and Future Self” serves as the title cut to the band’s debut record, out everywhere now.
