Welcome to Taste Test, a song/video review series of SubmitHub-only gemstones.

I first saw Sawyer Fredericks tear up a New York City stage a couple years ago. There’s a ferocious energy that crawls out of his core – and with his new song “Flowers for You,” that pours out in thick, foamy, relentless waves. His vocals crash against your eardrums, as he shovels out an inner rage that seeks to destroy him completely. Electric guitars snarl and smack their jaws behind him, and the emotional misery carries him as a hurricane across a gummy melody line. “It’s this lust I’ve succumbed to / Trust my gut, and I believe that in this world, there’s only you,” his breath is as hot steam. It scalds, but that’s the charm in how he tells stories: they come from a deep, visceral place, rattling loose until he has nothing left.

“Flowers for You” is the title cut to Fredericks’ new album, expected spring 2020.
