Taste Test: Sierra Annie Band push through a very ‘Bad Day’
The rising pop-country trio let themselves feel sadness before the clouds part.

A good life isn’t without its bad days. In 2020, we seem to be having more than usual. Pop-country arrivals Sierra Annie Band ⏤ a trio of Sierra Annie (vocals), Cameron Brookes (guitar), and Rondave Meinders (drums) ⏤ takes a breather to admit that perhaps today isn’t going so well. With “Bad Day,” the three-piece let themselves feel whatever they’re feeling; in confronting the sadness, they let it slide from their hearts and onto the pavement. “Sometimes it’s a mess, my hair, the bed, the kitchen floor, and inside my head,” sings Annie, whose impenetrable sorrow doesn’t deter a sweet, sunny vocal. “Sometimes, I gotta tell myself I’m fine / And tomorrow’s another chance to shine.” The production emits a contagious warmth, and Annie presents an equal kind of radiance. “We’re all sad and happy people,” she allows.
