Welcome to Taste Test, a song/video review series of SubmitHub-only gemstones

Deeply-rooted longing sprouts from the hole where our heart should be. In all its forms, loss drains you of all energy. And you often feel you may never recover. Indie singer-songwriter Simen Mitlid takes every ounce of his sorrow and fuses it into a somehow soothing backdrop. “Murders,” a moniker which drives to the core of those feelings, glides along ever so slightly, as his voice attempts to make sense of the end. “I’ll be waiting,” he calls through a descending emotional fog. “Every time, I turn it back / Every time, every time….” His words soon spiral out of control, as if he too is slipping between worlds and unconscious states. Synths flicker on and off, mimicking our own human journey into and out of this world. It’s truly a haunting performance.

“Murders” primes his new album, Birds, out later this year.
