We’ve all got a beast locked in a cage deep down inside of us. When provoked by outside forces, such as when a loved on comes under attack, the venom seeps out and triggers that creature to unleash hell on everything in its path. Well, that’s certainly the framework of Skinny Living‘s deliciously-devilish new song. With “My Blood,” a bluesy barn-burner that’s slick on the sly lyricism, frontman Ryan Johnston permits his husky tenor to crawl across the prickly rock undercurrent as his own incisor-toothed critter tumbles into the storm. “If you want to see a monster / If you want to see the red in my eyes / Just come for my family,” he grooves along the melody with a stunning and jolting sunny disposition. Within that structure, there’s a downright unnerving element that’ll chill to the core.
“My Blood” is the second single from the band’s new EP, expected later this year.
