Taste Test: SUMif toasts to a burn-out relationship with ‘Drink Yours Too’
The electro-pop singer reflects on a potential romance gone wrong on a new song.

While social media serves as a surprisingly intimate conduit for human interconnectivity, it can still operate as yet another mode of detachment. Electro-pop chronicler SUMif learned a hard, necessary lesson when she jetted across the globe, from San Francisco to Barcelona, to meet a new potential lover. As she details with her fluorescent new single “Drink Yours Too,” she quickly realizes things weren’t as they appeared onscreen. “How did I get so far into your mess / How could you just walk away,” she sings, her vocal feeling both cold and warm. In reflecting upon what could have been an even worse situation, the singer-songwriter emerges as a monarch butterfly, whose wings only grow stronger in the evening breeze. “We were meant to fall apart / Before we even started….”
