Without fail, there comes that moment where the threshold must be crossed. An uncertain future unfolds before you like a picturesque countryside brushed with thin, yet vibrant, strokes, which hint at a steady hand of craft and attention to beauty. Behind you, missed opportunities, broken hearts and mistakes are littered about as smoking ruin. You have a choice to make. Coloring with shades of ’90s country and folk music, Canadian singer-songwriter Tamara Maddalen sets her gaze for what’s next and plunges ahead ⏤ but not before taking that last glance over her shoulder. Teary-eyed yet determined, new single “Rearview” perches on that golden benchmark of change, and her voice shatters the door’s hinges. She soon takes flight off into the pastel pink sunset with nothing but new-found determination to never give up or in. “Somehow, I’ll be seeing you in my rearview,” she sings, bittersweet on past lovers and friends. But she doesn’t linger too long; just enough will do.
“Rearview” samples Maddalen’s new album, Mint Green Mercury, out later this year.
