Welcome to Taste Test, a song/video review series of SubmitHub-only gemstones

Quentin Tarantino has a signature style and approach to filmmaking that further heightens his often exaggerated realities. Even his ninth film, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, while soaked in a late-60s Los Angeles, is characterized with fictional flourishes and creative license to unearth richer layers. So, indie-rock duo The Jon Johns‘ new cut seems to be an eerily appropriate theme song, one drenched in the country & western vibe of perhaps even Kill Bill or Inglourious Basterds. “Outlaw” jingles and jangles with the free-spirit of a lawless countryside wrought with mayhem, blazin’ saddles and dusty cowboy hats. “I do whatever I want,” the lyrical ashes slip from their lips. And you too shall soon ride off into the low-hanging desert sun to pillage the next town over.

“Outlaw” is just one of many appetite-whetters for the band’s new album, Outlaw, expected later this year.
