Taste Test: Wax Owls share love of music with ‘The Appetite’
The indie trio forge ahead in the storm.

Wax Owls frontman Gerry Hirschfeld left his job as a lawyer to pursue music full-time. I know what you’re thinking. Why?! For the love of the art. That’s the case he makes with a new song called “The Appetite.” Jangly tambourine and thumping drums accompany a throaty lead vocal. “I stood there in the backdrop, watching you radiate the sound,” sings Hirschfeld. “Memories the only thing that’s keeping us around / It’s like I’m looking from above.” Static blares from the speakers, and the trio keeps their feet planted in the haze. While the industry rages outside, always teetering on collapse, Wax Owls don’t care. They’re in it for the work itself. And that’s enough.
