Christa Couture noticed something about love songs: there weren’t any about non-binary people. So, with a little help from her partner – who once jokingly called themselves a “little trans lover” – Couture set about writing a lovesick ode. “Oh, I know we still have a long way to go,” she sings. “Falling in love doesn’t get any easier now that we’re old.” An arrangement both tangy and sweet, the sweeping ditty makes an easy case for being the year’s most sentimental release. Later, the chorus delves into the intimacy they’ve found in the relationship, as Couture sings, “We tangle in sheets and stick to each other / Their voice makes me feel like I’ve had too much wine.” It goes without saying, but “Summer is Hot with My LIttle Trans Lover” is… adorable.
