Welcome to Boombox Blitz, an artist spotlight series showcasing overlooked singers, songwriters and musicians who are quietly taking over the world.

Provocative and cloaked in mystery, Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta went from performing grungy, alcohol-sloshed dive bars to becoming one of the most vital pillars of modern pop music. With her major label debut record, The Fame, Lady Gaga, whose moniker calls to legendary rock band Queen, injected luxurious style, songwriting craftsmanship and runway strut directly into the industry’s veins. “Just Dance,” a disco-stricken club banger with Colby O’Donis, was just the beginning of a career that’s been peppered with as many peaks as valleys. But even when the media’s fangs sank into her skin with her 2013 studio record, ARTPOP, a statement piece of true artistic pleasure, she rose victorious. 2016’s Joanne witnessed even more creative risks, as she dove into western and indie-rock music, and now riding high on the buzz of her role in the award-winning drama The Star is Born, alongside Bradley Cooper, who also directed the tear-soaked modern tragedy, she continues to reinvent her legacy.

Electronic surveyor Corvyx bows before Gaga with an enthralling homage that weaves in and out of her catalog, from hits to slithering and slapping deep cuts, beckoning his own dark spirits out of the fiery abyss for a magnetizing performance. In taking on such Gaga essentials as “Bad Romance,” “Marry the Night,” “Beautiful Dirty Rich” and “Telephone,” among a slew of other irresistible and culturally-profound compositions, the devilish chameleon fuses the macabre slink of Marilyn Manson with the vocal bite of Adam Lambert. His vocal timbre is silky when it needs to be; other times, he scratches at the atmosphere with a rolling, sky-cracking thunder.

The visual, spliced with the choreography of dancer Ashley DeLane Burger, is a stunning and twisted mechanism that erupts from the inside out, allowing the creative to find his footing in the shadow of such a pop titan. Even so, he manages to soar through starkly lit alleyways that are etched with vibrant graffiti and grim and scorch his own avenue with sinfully delicious dance moves through the annals of pop history. The cast is rounded out by Maddie Kendall, Michelle Morris and Vanessa Scarola.

Corvyx is mystifying on camera. In marrying the past and the present, he evokes a sense of grandiose and pop majesty, tipping his hat to his predecessors across the 10-song mashup. From the neon-splashed color palette and aesthetics to the incisive vocal power, he turns fervor of Gaga’s songbook into his own personal, handwritten manifesto of learning to live as his most authentic self, imparting the viewer with a glorious gift of heart and soul.
