Freshly Squeezed, Vol. 150: John Calvin Abney, Cameron Hawthorn, Social Gravy, and more
Enjoy new songs from ZZ Ward, Foxes, Future Strangers, Dagny, and more.
Welcome to Freshly Squeezed, a weekly new music playlist: spanning country, pop, EDM and urban, mainstream and other.
John Calvin Abney‘s “Shine Like a Friend” glistens in the sunlight pouring through the open window. Abney’s voice blows across the hollow desert like some god-like force. It’s perhaps the timelessness of the melody, adhering to a very classic pop approach, that further elevates his already ethereal performance. We don’t deserve him.
Not enough folks are talking about Cameron Hawthorn, and it shows. With his new song “To Break Hers,” a visceral and soul-crushing ballad, he draws the listener into an emotional story about once being in a relationship with a woman. Where the relationship was going slow and steady, he knew in his heart it would never work out. Get ready to grab your heart off the floor.
Social Gravy drag the listener down into a dark underworld with a new song. “Love You Better” scratches the skin; it’s shadowy nature claws at the veins and rips organs from their places. It’s that kind of gnarly alt/rock tune that suffocates and never lets you breathe. Electric guitars casts a fang-toothed snarl your way, and you’ll never know what hit you.
The playlist also includes Dagny, Lauren Alaina, Iris DeMent, Future Strangers, Foxes, Andrew Weiss and Friends, Thrillhouse, Ava Max, That Brunette, Marlene Oak, and many more.
In all, we’ve got 30 new tracks to soothe your mind during these terrible pandemic times. Insert heart emoji.
Each playlist will be refreshed every Friday or Saturday. We reserve the right to update anytime during the week, so make sure you bookmark this page.
