Do we really ever get to know anyone in today’s age of Instagram and Twitter? Probably not. But we can at least get a quick glimpse into the facade they tout about online, for better or for worse. Synthy singer-songwriter Hayden Everett probes his own mind for the answers, and in effect, we begin to question our own role in perpetuating faux sensitivities of identity and hypocrisy behind the shutters. “Who Are You” slips under the fingernails and sends a high shocking through the brain stem. “Do I love in vain / Is it all the same now,” his breath chills the air around him. The ice glistens and pierces the atmosphere, and before you even realize it, you’re all wrapped up in your feelings. That’s the magic touch of Everett’s delicate performance: it’s rooted in the present but bounds far beyond the borders of the human understanding.
