The strangulation of a 9 to 5 job leaves noticeable bruises on your skin. Black and blue skeletons dance on porcelain, and if you’re lucky, you’ll gather up broken pieces of strength to break free from it all. London-located indie-pop goddess Jess Chalker witnesses herself galloping away from a mundane existence for the ensuing thrills that come with impending unknowns. With “Dance in the Rain,” she loses all sense of time and space, as shards of retro light reflect off a slowly-rotating disco ball, silvering and light. Her voice is prismatic, yet there’s a gilded heaviness that seems to guide her onward as a needle on vinyl. “Remember all those times we never rolled the dice,” she whispers. Such compact wisdom comes from years of grueling labor, and we should certainly take great heed. Nothing like dancing in the rain, uninhibited.
