Welcome to Taste Test, a song/video review series of SubmitHub-only gemstones

Quarantine has exacerbated mental health. If you’re already trapped inside your own head, being trapped in your house only fuels anxiety and depression. This is why art and particularly music have been even more important than before. Indie singer-songwriter Lisa Heller reassess her mental state on her wistful new song. With “Wings,” she confronts the demons that have snuck in through the windows and underneath the doors, bewitching creatures whose only mission is total destruction. But left to her own devices, she retraces her downward spiral in order to cleanse herself so you can turn her gaze back to the heavens. “I found a way out,” she cries at the rock bottom at which she writhes. It’s only a momentary trance, and as the song builds and crescendos, she sprouts metaphorical wings and scratches and heaves her way back to the summit. It’s exhilarating.

“Wings” is the follow-up to her latest EP, The Lisa Heller Project, issued earlier this spring.
