Heartbreak comes with various stages of aftermath: anger, sadness, numbness, and denial. “Do you miss it like I do?” vocalist Jayli Wolf questions. Fronting electronic duo named Once a Tree, alongside producer Hayden Wolf, Jayli finds herself in a tornado of delusion, as she’s triggered by the song on the radio or forever tangled in her own midnight reveries. “When it’s five in the morning, and I can’t ignore it / You’re the only thing I need,” she confides. Thick, bark-y production sprouts from an organic root, often feeling organic but nearly always somehow synthetic too.
“Have You Ever?” samples the duo’s new EP, Fool’s Paradise, out everywhere now.
