Taste Test: Rumara gives their darkly hypnotic track a spin in ‘Crown’

British duo gets extra-dimensional with a stunning esoteric electro-pop sound

Welcome to Taste Test, a song/video review series of SubmitHub-only gemstones

One of the best things about music is the ability to transport you to different worlds. This British electro-pop duo achieve this with spectacular results with their new single “Crown”. The opening vocals are initally quiet, leaving space for the sci-fi synth to boldly clear a path through the song. The singer and instrumentalist Laura V is enrapturing as a pitch-perfect celestial-esque vocalist, weaving a story of revelation and relationships. The other half of the duo is Yujin Matsutoya – the producer and multi-instrumentalist of Rumara. Just as the multi-layers harmonies are peeled back to expose the raw emotion and pain underneath, so are the true natures of the lovers revealed as one steadily grows power over the other. “Crown” is cinematically vivid, painting pictures in your mind as the song unrolls. It captures your imagination as easily as it captures your attention.
