He’s navigated rough and tumble waters, nearly drowning, but he ultimately coughs it all up. Now, the clouds part, revealing a baby blue sky, and Simon XO is worse for wear but alive. With “Give You What You Gave,” his forthcoming EP’s finale, the singer-songwriter celebrates what he’s been through, and upon questioning purpose, life, and death, he’s more self assured and resilient than he’s ever been in his life. “I think I’ve finally said it straight,” he sings, more a confession to himself than anything. But a shimmering folk-pop exterior draws the listener into not only enjoying his transformation but their own, too.
