To be a queer artist is to be in a constant state of untethering. Just take a listen to Adeem the Artist‘s “Jason Isbell B-Side.” The acoustic number sees Adeem in their rawest, most honest, and most vulnerable place of being. The pulverizing stunner, written “while I was beginning to spiral out of control,” Adeem writes on Facebook, confronts the jarring balance-beam act of offing yourself and the reality that, well, people just might not get your life right. “The hardest part of all of this? I can’t even slit my wrists without the risk that I will get my whole life poorly summarized,” sings Adeem with an acidic tongue.
