Damon Brock roots around in his life for songwriting inspiration. Whether it’s finding hope and resilience in his wife or the grief coursing through his veins after his father’s death, he funnels crucial life pillars into his brand-new EP. Keep On is a celebration of life, love, and passion in all their forms. A relationship crumbles into stardust with “One Way or Another,” a sobering left-hook, whereas “For Dad” ebbs and flows as a funeral song dedicated to his late father. “They’ll help me when it all becomes too much,” he cherishes the good memories, as his heart nose-dives into grieving.
Brock also seeks out adventure with “Finding My Way Home,” and despite the heaviness lining his breath, he carefully uncovers the things that bring him back to who he’s always been. “I wait for the sun to come up, and I walk to the sea,” he sings over sandpaper guitar. Brock’s reedy vocals stir up the raw emotion of living and dying. “We went on such adventures into the great unknown,” he adds. The four-track project reaches its apex on the closing song and title track, “Keep on Dreaming of You,” a bare live demo that delicately and profoundly honors his wife. It’s a wonderful musical storm worth enduring over and over again.
