Making room for every part of yourself, particularly as you grow older, is an essential part of the human experience. Sometimes, it can be difficult to accept certain things, but it’s mostly a transcendent process. With her new song, “Crowded Room,” Emily Hackett works through her own development with a sharp-toothed pen. “There’s part of me that’s watching myself crawling on the ground,” she admits. You could say it’s partly an out-of-body experience, witnessing each fragment of yourself melting into one.
“Crowded Room” samples Hackett’s forthcoming album, Must Be Present to Win, out 6/26.
