“I don’t mind the pain,” crows Eric Richard, drenching his song “Borrowed Time” with a sweltering mid-summer rasp. As all artists can recognize, the price of making art is a mighty one. Richard contemplates the blood, sweat, and tears he’s funneled into songwriting over the years. For better or worse, he discovers catharsis but also a terrible weight to be transparent about his life and work. With bristled guitars and a jazz-inflected approach to Americana, the song cracks with a thunderous buzz that sends vibrations throughout his latest project.
“Borrowed Time” serves as the title track to Richard’s new EP, out now via Splitsville Records.
