Rejection is par the course for this ever-collapsing business. Models are constantly shifting, and even tempering expectations doesn’t soften the blow much. It can eat you alive, if you let it. Conversely, the constant struggle can equip you with a tougher skin and a more upright backbone, permitting you to walk self-assured into the oncoming hurricane. Just ask New York City’s electro-dance shape-shifter J-LiNE. His new single “Feeling the Yes,” premiering today, adheres to that lock-jawed determination, filtered through his signature pop ‘n fizz. “I know what I meant to do with / All my light but what if  / All my life I’ve been chasing rainbows,” he sputters in place, revving up his engines as he considers the weight of the elusive dreamscape. But forward propulsion is inevitable.

“One step closer then I fall back / Looking for a new path / Leading me to where I belong,” he sings. He situates his heartstrings amidst a blinding snowstorm of silky synth work and an altogether gurgling production stream, enveloping each of the senses with starlight and warmth. He goes on, contemplating his ingrained desire to forged ahead at all costs: “If there’s nobody else / I’ll depend on myself  / I’ll stay strong and keep believing.”

The future will always appear uncertain, at least on first glance, but destiny is often simmering below the surface and ready to bust from the seams. “Everybody’s telling me no, baby,” he circles this otherwise sorrowful statement over and over again. The tears have long stained and then faded down his cheeks, and so, he follows the song’s throbbing pulse to regain his worth, as if collecting remnants of his past selves to culminate in a vibrant new mosaic. “Everybody’s telling me no / But I feel the yes,” he concludes, sharpening his resolve and slithering out of the misery that could very well drag him far below.

Co-produced with Electropoint, “Feeling the Yes” is an evocative and totally liberating pop-piece that further cements J-LiNE’s stranglehold on melody and confection. “In my daily life, I hear ‘no’ more than I would like to, but it never kills that fire inside me that constantly tells me ‘yes,'” he tells B-Sides & Badlands. “That ‘yes’ pushes me forward and allows me to reach for what I want in life, even when I’ve been betrayed or dismissed. I want people to know, if no one believes in you, you can depend on yourself and make things happen on your own.”
