The Singles Bar: James Freeborn – Postcards

James Freeborn masterfully stages a delicate and beautiful story in his new song “Postcards.” The narrator imagines a conversatio with his older sister, now in a coma. He attempts to lasso all their best memories together, but it’s proving to be near impossible to bottle up one’s whole life into four minutes of guitar-strung music. “I’m overmatched / Where are you now?” he sings with an ache so terrible that he can barely breathe. Sentences and phrases come out like gasps for air. The story unravels like a ball of string being batted aroud by a feisty kitten.
